W2 Class model tram – O scale

Traction Scale Models is working in conjunction with Transit Classics to bring you a Melbourne W2 Class model tram in O scale (1:43). We have been working hard over the last few months working from drawings supplied by Greg King (of Transit Classics) to produce an accurate model of this popular tram.

The model has passed in its final testing phase and we have received the first print from New York.

Has the W2tram been completed and if so has a price been decided on. Neil Tate

      Hi Neil,
Yes the W2 is complete. It has been designed using two materials WSF and FUD. The WSF is a lower cost material used for the roof and chassis and has a slightly rougher texture. It has been very difficult keeping the costs down for these big models and the US to AUD conversion doesn’t help either.
Here are the links to the two components of the model:

Re the Sydney O Class tramcar model – is it possible to purchase one of these models in a non-running (unmotored) state and, if so, what would the purchase price be? Thanking you.

    • modeltrams says:

      Hi Kevin,
Thanks for the comment. These models are actually unpowered when you purchase them from Shapeways. It requires you to purchase the mechanism from Hollywood Foundry to power the model. So if you follow the link you will be able to purchase an unpowered model. You might need to find some bogies to throw under it or scratch build some as I haven’t modelled dummy bogies for the O yet.
      Regards

Thanks for that Joseph, just wondering has any thought been given to doing a three axle sydney trolley bus? I feel sure there would quite a few collectors out there who would like to have one. Regards Kevin

      Hi Kevin,
I’ve been wanting to do one for a while. I’m still trying to find suitable plans however. Nothing has turned up yet.

      Regards
      Joseph

Hi Joseph I have a plan of a three axle double decker trolley bus, I am not really good with computers but I have a friend who is! Next time he comes over I will see if we can scan it and email it to you or perhaps send it through the post. I also have one of an Adelaide three axle decker. regards Kevin.

      Hi Kevin,
That would be great thanks! I will also try to make it so it can be installed with a motor for the Faller system. Looking forward to it.
      Cheers,
      Joseph

Hi Joseph These plans are on A3 paper I dont think we can shrink them down, Is there a postal address I can send them to? If so could you email it to me? Hoping they will be of some use. Cheers Kevin.

  6. Kevin cronin says:

Hi Joseph If you do the trolley bus models, will they be in HO or O scale? Regards Kevin.

    • modeltrams says:

      Hi Kevin,
Looking forward to getting started on the Trolley bus. It’s next in the queue. I was thinking to do both O and HO at the same time. The HO size might be popular for those who want to motorise their model where as there have been requests for an O scale version of the model. So I thought, I’ll do both.

      Cheers
      Joseph
